A One-Of-Kind Place to Live, Work, and Lead
About First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Oceanside (FCC) has been faithfully serving the heart of the city since 1875. We are an historic, growing congregation with a passion for serving marginalized people and building a deeply-rooted and diverse local community of faith. Our church fed hungry people during the Great Depression, organized relief for military wives during the Vietnam war, and helped start a social services agency in the 1990’s. Today we continue that legacy by serving as a place of hospitality in the neighborhood for the good of the city. For us, the fullest expression of the gospel is to overcome divisions and help bring wholeness (shalom) to our community through faithfulness to the person, teachings, and work of Jesus Christ as revealed on the cross.
We are located in downtown Oceanside, California, at the intersection of historic neighborhoods, low-income communities, a burgeoning Highway 101 business district, the downtown beaches, and City Hall. We are two blocks from Oceanside High School and in close proximity to Mira Costa College, Palomar College, and Cal State University San Marcos. Oceanside is currently experiencing rapid economic development, which means new businesses, restaurants, and housing developments are attracting higher-income families. However, that also means struggling families, marginalized populations of color, and local homeless residents are all experiencing increased pressure and hardship. At FCC, we believe we are called to embody the gospel of wholeness in the midst of these local tensions.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a sense of calling to Christian ministry who is looking to gain practical leadership experience in a one-of-a-kind setting.
Children’s Ministry Director
We are searching for a Children’s Ministry Director to provide leadership to our small but growing contingent of families with young children. Responsibilities include recruitment, training, and nurturing adult volunteers, organizing curriculum, planning special events, and administrative coordination.
This is a part-time, 30% staff position (12 hours per week) reporting to the Senior Pastor. We are committed to bivocational ministry as an expression of incarnational mission. In other words, we intentionally live and work in the community to which we minister. So it will be necessary for candidates to have a viable second vocation that immerses them in the local North San Diego County community. Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated track record of faithful and effective coordination of children or youth programs or events, as well as an affinity for the core values and priorities of the Disciples of Christ (disciples.org). This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a sense of calling to Christian ministry who is looking to gain practical leadership experience in a one-of-a-kind setting.
Do you think you are called to this ministry? If so, email a cover letter and resume to office(at)fccoceanside(dot)org with “Children’s Director” in the subject line. No phone calls please.
